What Hinge officially documents for chat, why app versions matter, and how to share safely off-app.
The Short Answer
Hinge's current chat instructions document sending messages and emoji, liking a message, and using Voice Notes. They do not document a general photo-attachment control. If your current composer has no camera or gallery button, you cannot attach a new picture from that chat.
Can You Send a Photo in Hinge Chat?
Open a match and look at the current composer. Hinge's official messaging guide lists text, emoji, and message Likes, while its calling update points people to Voice Notes and messaging. It does not currently provide user instructions for a general photo attachment.
Features can vary by app version, region, and tests. That is why checking the live composer is better than trusting an old screenshot. If there is no camera, gallery, or attachment control, a subscription will not create one: Hinge does not list photo messaging as a Hinge+ or HingeX benefit.
What Can You Send?
Hinge currently documents:

- a Like reaction on a message;

- comments attached to Likes before matching.

What About Profile Photos and Videos?
Photos, videos, and voice prompts on a Hinge profile are different from chat attachments. You can upload supported media while editing your profile, and people can Like or comment on a specific part of it.
Do not add a personal photo to the public profile just to show one match. Everyone who can view the profile may see it, and profile content remains subject to Hinge's rules.
A Safe Way to Share Something Off-App
Only move to another messaging service when both people are comfortable. Say what you want to share and let the other person choose the channel:

That is better than using a photo as pressure to collect a phone number. You can also use a secondary messaging handle rather than immediately exposing a primary phone number.
Before opening a file or link:
- confirm it came from the person you expected;
- avoid shortened or unfamiliar URLs;
- never send money, passwords, verification codes, or financial information;
- do not share intimate media without explicit consent;
- stop and report the account if the exchange becomes coercive or threatening.
Why the Article Cannot Promise a Permanent “No”
Dating apps change quickly and sometimes test features with a subset of accounts. The defensible claim is what Hinge documents now and what the composer actually shows—not that the product can never add photo attachments.
If Hinge adds a camera or gallery control to your current version, follow the in-app safety prompts. If it does not, there is no hidden setting or paid switch documented to enable it.
