Hinge App Icons and Symbols Explained
A current guide to Discover, Standouts, Likes You, Matches, Roses, verification, Signals, and chat controls.

H: Discover
Discover is the main recommendation feed. Tap the Heart beside a specific photo or prompt to prepare a Like, or tap X to Skip. The undo arrow can restore only the most recent Skip when it is available.
Star: Standouts
Standouts is a separate feed of profiles receiving attention that meet your preferences. Interest from this feed is sent with a Rose rather than an ordinary Like.
Heart: Likes You
Incoming Likes appear here. A numerical badge can indicate new activity. Free users review incoming profiles one at a time, while subscription features can change how the queue is viewed.
Chat Bubble: Matches
Mutual Likes become Matches. This is where conversations, unread activity, Hidden chats, and chat-specific controls appear.
Profile Photo
The far-right profile area opens editing, preferences, settings, notifications, subscriptions, Pause, and account controls.

A Rose improves placement; it does not guarantee that the recipient sees or accepts the profile.
Profile Badges
Selfie Verified
The verification badge means a video-selfie check matched a live face with profile photos. Hinge says it is not proof of a person's name, background, intentions, or safety.
Signals
A Signals badge reflects patterns of recent thoughtful participation and follow-through inside Hinge. Eligibility is recalculated and the badge can appear or disappear. Hinge says it cannot be purchased and does not guarantee responsiveness, compatibility, character, or relationship outcomes.
New Here
New Here identifies a profile that recently joined, when the feature is available. Treat it as account-age context, not a trust or quality score.
Feature badges can vary by market, test, and subscription. Do not assume an absent badge means something is wrong with the account.
Match and Chat Controls
Inside a conversation, the three-dot menu can include:
- Enable or Disable Notifications for that chat;
- Hide or Unhide the conversation;
- Unmatch, which permanently removes the connection and chat;
- Report, for a safety or policy issue;
- We Met, where available, for private date feedback.
Matches with no activity for 14 days can move into Hidden automatically. A new message returns a hidden conversation to the top.
“Your Turn” and Limits
Hinge uses Your Turn state to identify conversations awaiting your response. If too many people are waiting, Your Turn Limits can prevent new Like activity until you reply to or close existing conversations.
The other person is not notified that you hit the limit. The indicator describes product state; it does not reveal how anyone feels about the conversation.
Why Your Icons May Look Different
Hinge tests features and updates the interface. Differences can result from:
- iOS vs. Android;
- app version;
- region;
- free vs. subscribed account;
- feature rollout or test eligibility.
Update the app and use the current label shown beside an icon. An old screenshot is weaker evidence than the live control and official help page.
FAQ
What does the X mean?
It skips the current Discover profile. It is unrelated to the HingeX subscription.
What does the Rose mean?
It sends a higher-placement Like and is required in Standouts.
Does the verified badge mean the person is safe?
No. Hinge explicitly says Selfie Verification is not a safety guarantee.
What does Signals mean?
It reflects recent in-app participation patterns. Hinge says it does not guarantee responsiveness or outcomes.
